Gone are the days when we would come home and just relax. With the increasing stress in today’s busy life, the quality of life is deteriorating day by day. This life style gives rise to increasing psychophysiological problems. So the importance of meditation is even more increasing.
The purpose of meditation is different to different people. There are various types of meditation techniques all over the world, each having their unique identity. However, the most popular technique in India and abroad is ‘Kriya Yog.’
My guru Shri Arvind Kulkarni ji derived the divine knowledge from Gurumata Sadhvi Sunandatai.
The human body as we see has seven main chakras. They have very important roles in the human life. When we experience discomfort due to many reasons such as stress, etc., the origin is at the chakras. Cleansing the chakras is the most important step towards the quality life. In olden days even if the financial prosperity was less, people were happy and content. Sacrifice and surrender were the part of life. Surrender is the outcome of cleansed chakras. In today’s ‘highly competitive’ world how can the attitude of surrender develop in us? The attitude develops on its own. The effort to achieve this is Prakriya (process). The first three levels of Kriya yog that Gurumata Sadhvi Sunandatai has used as a medium is Prakriya. Prakriya is a conscious effort to generate ‘Bhaav’ (pure intention). Once this gets matured Kriya happens on its own.
This wonderful process of Prakriya and Kriya can be experienced by us for the improvement of our life and the life of others.
As we know our body as ‘Physical Body’ that is visible. The second – the subtle body that is seen through the inner vision. Our understanding of the body should not be limited to the physical body alone. It is very important to understand the subtle body, because the illness first makes its entry in the subtle body. After remaining there in subtle body for some period, then, it starts affecting our physical body. Both these bodies are attached to each other at the naval. Therefore, the subtle body has to be healthy.
As mentioned earlier, there are seven main chakras in the human body starting from the base of the spine.
To have a healthy life, the chakras have to be clean and active. Kriya Yog is one of the best ways to attain the same.
Kriya yoga as explained in ‘the Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramhansa Yogananda as follows:
The Sanskrit origin of the word ‘Kriya’ is ‘Kri’ means to do, to act and react. The same link is found in the meaning of the word Karma. Karma is the natural principle of cause and effect. The meaning of the word Yoga means union. Kriya Yoga is thus ‘union with the infinite through a certain action or rite.’ A yogi who faithfully follows its technique is gradually freed from karma or the universal chain of causation.
Kriya Yoga is a simple, psychophysiological method by which the human blood is decarbonized and recharged with oxygen. The atoms of this extra oxygen are transmuted into life current to rejuvenate the brain and spinal centers. By stopping the accumulation of venous blood, the yogi is able to lessen or prevent the decay of tissues; the advanced yogi transmutes his cells into pure energy. Elijah, Jesus, Kabir and other prophets were past masters in the use of Kriya or a similar technique, by which they caused their bodies to dematerialize at will.
Kriya Yoga is referred to by Krishna, India's greatest prophet, in a stanza of the Bhagavad Gita: "Offering inhaling breath into the outgoing breath, and offering the outgoing breath into the inhaling breath, the yogi neutralizes both these breaths; he thus releases the life force from the heart and brings it under his control." The interpretation is: "The yogi arrests decay in the body by an addition of life force, and arrests the mutations of growth in the body by apan (eliminating current). Thus neutralizing decay and growth, by quieting the heart, the yogi learns life control."
The legacy of Kriya Yoga originates in a former incarnation of Krishna, communicated the yoga to Vivasvat who gave it to Manu, the great legislator. Manu instructed to Ikshwaku. Thus passing over thousands of years. Later Patanjali, the exponent of Yoga wrote "Kriya Yoga consists of body discipline, mental control, and meditating on Aum." Patanjali speaks of God as the actual Cosmic Sound of Aum heard in meditation. Aum is the Creative Word, the sound of the Vibratory Motor. Even the yoga-beginner soon inwardly hears the wondrous sound of Aum. Receiving this blissful spiritual encouragement, the devotee becomes assured that he is in actual touch with divine realms.
We have witnessed the power of Aum in many of the Kriya yoga sessions we had with Shri Arvind ji. He does not like to be called as a guru, but prefers to be called a meditator who is taking other meditators along with him. In some of the sessions we could see the symbol of Aum appearing on his forehead while he was deep into the meditative state.
The same was also witnessed and confirmed by Gurudev Agastya Bhagwan delivered by H. H. Deviamma of Bengaluru. She has also blessed as
